With prices going up here, in Canada, for fresh vegetables and meat , it's a wonderful recipe with just the basics. As a working senior living alone, I like to have extra that I can freeze and enjoy later. Thank you so much.

Well done…Did you know====CROCKPOTS have their heating elements on the BOTTOM of the unit.

SLOW COOKERS have the element wrapped around the SIDE of the unit. Thank you for your great recipe.

I'm surprised you didn't brown the meat in a frying pan first. I'm going to have to try this method. Just putting the raw meat on top looks so easy. Thanks.

I had to pause and find out what year this was posted. 2 years ago. The priced you'd pay now for one of those chuck roasts would be $12 where I live, it's more than doubled!!

I would definitely add some flour or cornstarch to thicken up the gravy maybe 2 cups of fortified wine instead of 4 cups of water

Years ago in New York a friend gave me a Crock Watcher, which I used very often and made incredible stews and soups. When we packed the van and moved down here to New Orleans, only one thing got broken. You guessed it – the crockpot. I knew that these particular pots were no longer made, so I gave up on ever having another one just like it. A thrift shop where I buy remnants for my sewing projects has a household section. I held it in my mind that this crockpot would turn up. And amazingly enough, I found EXACTLY the same one – just tan color instead of deep orange. Since I am already an expert on using this type of slow cooker, I am really looking forward to doing this version of beef stew. Thanks for your lively, funny – and very interesting hints how to make a good stew even better….

I know its been a couple years, but I'm so glad I learned about your channel! I'm new at cooking, and I like how simple and delicious these meals look. I'm going to learn how to make this stew over the summer so that I can enjoy it while I am in the dorm in college during the fall. Thank you!

I did my beef stew a little different. Only whole ingredients. Pototoes , baby carrots, onion, garden peas. Season it with Mrs. Dash original, Himalayan salt, ground pepper, and seasoning called herbes de provence. Adding 2 packages of stewing beef. 4 cups of water. And a bay leaf. I have to cook this for about 5 hours and so I will I'll let you know how it tastes but I'm also going to add kidney beans in the end to make it a little bit thicker for the gravy kidney beans will thicken it that's why I do it at the end and hello for about 45 minutes and we'll thicken up the soup into more like a gravy so I cook my beef stew well that's another way to cook it if you like to use whole ingredients to use I don't use anything but I can one thing out of a can everything is whole cuz I don't like anything box I don't like anything that has preservatives in it yuck

Please don't cut out out the fat from the meat as it will render down whilst cooking and add so much more flavour and tenderise the meat.
