In Venezuela, that Colombian clown salad is called Russian salad! since you have noticed the similarities. But normally it is prepared without tomato, and the onion in smaller quantities and very finely chopped. The egg is also mixed with the rest of the ingredients. I think the beetroot is what makes it an instant "Russian" dish.

Add fresh apples to Buko Salad for an added crunch also something that might be strange for everyone else is adding cubes of processed cheese.

I like to add red onion and jalapeno to my Nopales. I've never tried with cotija but will soon. I love cotija. And I eat them in a corn tortilla like a taco.

I’m from just across the border in Germany from the Swiss city. We make the salad too! However, he should have told you to use Bologna sausage instead. The sausage we use is essentially like a giant Hot Dog. It’ll change the taste dramatically! This was a nice surprise! 🙂

Hey Beryl? If I send you 2 recipes for the same dessert (except one is regular and the other is KETO) and send you MOST of the ingredients (except the whipped toppings, banana, and cream cheese) will you make them both at once and critique them?

Is it the mayonnaise (because I see you using light) that is making you think these salads are not healthy? Aside from the buko salad non of these are unhealthy, maybe not nutritious as a dark leafy green (iceberg lettuce has no nutrition) salad, but not unhealthy.

For the Swiss-German salad, mustard is used as an emulsifier for the dressing. So by not using german yellow mustard (which can be substituted for any yellow mustard) and going with mustard seeds, you lose the binding agent for the salad but also causes the dressing the separate. I use dijon or black mustard for my dressings because I like the kick to it from the ground-up black mustard seeds.

But I am definitely going to give some of these a try. yum!

Oh, and your source video for the Columbian salad says it's a Russian salad.

I love sauerkraut on pizza. I usually get a slice of pepperoni at Costco and ask for a sauerkraut side because they have them for the hot dogs ☺️

Your last one is what we call Ambrosia. Very popular at picnics and bazaars. It sort of got a bad rap because it was so many peoples go to and you could end up with bowl after bowl of Ambrosia! I think the young coconut would make it really interesting and the table cream. Often it was made with cool whip 🙃

You can actually add processed cheese on it too .. plus fresh fruits of your choice. That's how we make our own buko fruit salad in the Philippines. It's normally done for occasions

Sri Lankan fruit salad, typically pineapple, banana, papaya optionally dates dressed with lime juice.

You can add nuts, whipped cream, condensed milk, pair it with ice cream or yoghurt or add other tropical fruits like mango. Basically it's so delicious.

Amazing selection of salads Beryl! Especially the Mexican cactus. Pretty niche when it comes to cactuses haha.

Also, for us Sarawakian (Living in Borneo, Sarawak Malaysia) we loveeeeeee Midin!! (Borneo Fiddlehead fern).

We either stir fry it with dried shrimp or we make it into a salad. For the salad method, first we prep the sauce which is similar to ceviche tbh. We start off with lime, birds eye chillies, shallots, crushed peanuts and salt. Then boil the fern for around 50 seconds, drain and dry. After that we toss them together and dress with some minced dried krill. It is amazing I tell ya!

It's pretty much the same for umai (ceviche) fish, prawn or even octopus. 😀

The beet, potato and carrot salad is also found in Mauritius. I had absolutely no idea that there was a similar version in Columbia or Russia. The one in Mauritius may or may not have mayo and does not have any fish. You can add an egg though 🙂

Nooo nooo nooo. You can't use Bratwurst in Salad. It is ment to be grilled and not eaten cold like that. Is that even safe? You need a sausage that is already cooked. This is soo wrong to me 🙈

I do remember that when i was in high school (12 to 16 in the Philippines) i would include some raisins, some fresh apples. I am not a fan of wet buko salad so i ended up making my own cream sauce with 4 kinds of dairy products. It ended up like an ice cream consistency when i chill it. And it will not drip as much as regular buko salad.

The Columbian beetroot salad is so similar to Russian vinegrette or herring salad. It's really popular here in Eastern Europe.
